Electronic manufacturing enterprises break through patent layout, core chip technology protection achieves market breakthrough

A certain electronic manufacturing enterprise is facing difficulties in breaking through technical barriers and high risks of patent infringement in the research and development of intelligent terminal chips. The "low-power IoT chip" developed by the company after 3 years of research and development has achieved significant breakthroughs in standby time and data transmission efficiency, with a standby time of up to 18 months, which is 40% higher than the industry average. However, due to the lack of system patent layout, core power control algorithms, RF circuit design and other technologies are facing the risk of being blocked by industry giants' patents. The product received patent infringement warnings from two companies before being launched, and market access was hindered.

After our intervention, we first conducted a comprehensive patent risk assessment of chip technology. Through searching the global patent database, we found 7 potential infringing patents. In response to these risk points, we assist enterprises in conducting avoidance designs, optimizing and adjusting circuit structures and algorithm logic, and forming new technical solutions. Simultaneously initiating patent layout work, focusing on core modules such as chip architecture, power control, and communication protocols, 16 innovative points were identified, and a three-layer layout strategy of "core patents+defense patents+peripheral patents" was formulated to assist enterprises in completing 42 patent applications. Among them, 28 invention patents successfully built a protection network, including key patents such as "a power control method for IoT chips based on dynamic voltage regulation" and "low latency RF signal processing circuit".

To cope with potential litigation risks, we have established a patent infringement response plan for enterprises and formed an emergency team composed of patent lawyers and technical experts. After the product was launched, an industry giant filed a patent infringement lawsuit. We successfully declared two core patents of the other party partially invalid through an invalidation request and submitted evidence of the company's independently developed patents. In the end, the court rejected the plaintiff's lawsuit request, saving the company over 20 million yuan in compensation expenses.

After the implementation of the project, the coverage of the enterprise's patent portfolio increased from 22% to 96%, successfully breaking through technological barriers. With independent patent protection, chip products have successfully entered mainstream terminal supply chains such as Huawei and Xiaomi, with an annual shipment volume of 50 million units and a sales growth of 420 million yuan. Core patents also bring in patent licensing revenue of 6 million yuan for enterprises, gaining technological discourse power in industry competition and becoming an important participant in the field of IoT chips.
